1. CONFERENCES
These programs originate from various Conferences who favor the LE work but for whatever reasons, are not under the organized working umbrella of the Press.  The programs vary widely Conference to Conference.  Often these programs give the LE a better break than do the structured programs due to lack of leadership expenses.  The LE is totally responsible for collecting all monies owed him by the customer, purchasing inventory and advertising supplies. These programs also have been known to fold up overnight leaving the LE scrambling to find materials to sell.  Programs are subject to the whims of each new set of Conference officials who may or may not be enthralled with the colporteur ministry.  To the best of our knowledge in 2008 the following are the individual Conferences in NA who offer an LE program and you will need to contact each one directly:

2. PRESS
Also known as the Publishing House, there are two such entities in North America.  They are Pacific Press (PPPA) and the Review (RHPA).  Both operate their own version of the Home Health Education Service (HHES) programs whereby LE's join their employ as independent LE's and purchase books with prompt remittal to the publishing house.  The LE is responsible for collecting monies owed by his customers, purchasing inventory and advertising supplies.  The Colporteur is under a signed agreement to work for the press and bound to adhere to suggested retail prices.

3. UNION
The last remaining Union to offer HHES is the Southern Union (SU) and what a Union it has been.  It was the last of the programs to do away with educational and retirement benefits for the colporteur.  This program offers strict credit terms to its customers but the LE's must collect their debts.  There are bonuses for qualifying and strong leadership throughout the Union territory.  Almost every Conference in SU is affiliated with the head office from Decateur, GA.  From out of SU originates the FHES (Black) program whose work stretches across the USA.

4. SOLO
In this grouping we place the various independent and dependent ministries who offer some form of literature evangelism, plus your everyday Adventist selling magazines and missionary literature in his neighborhood.  The groups we know of include:
Outpost Centers International (OCI) - formerly known as "self-supporting work" but now referred to as "supporting work."  Various laymen-run institutions around the world often offer LE programs but they come and go.  The most famous in this chain are Wildwood Sanitarium, GA, Uchee Pines, AL and Oak Haven, MI.

5. STUDENT
In many ways the student colporteur, earning tuition by selling books in their off-season has taken over the literature work.  They number by the thousands and often outsell their full-time counterparts by a fair margin.  They are a well-schooled army, invading shopping malls, and blitzing a neighborhood in a single afternoon.  They clear-cut a territory and leave nary a stone unturned.  These kids are soul winners and boast of many conversions stories.  They sell a few chosen maga books.  Full-time LE's are buoyed by Sister White's quote that "circulation increases demand."  The main student programs, which invite students from many foreign lands to join them, are:
